Nerdfest

So I am having my own private self reflective nerdfest* today. I have been in the studio, but have been a little bit under the weather and putting a little bit of pressure on myself to accomplish something (not a good space for fostering creativity).... My head says one thing, but my hands and eyes don't seem to be speaking the same language. I am trying to pull together a collection of personal work. I cut and paste my recent favorites that I have finished in the last couple of years and I was studying them. It is so helpful looking at them all together....I can see that they all look like the same person did them, so there is a personal style developing here; they all started with a pencil sketch; the subject matter was something I was very inspired by; I let go of trying to control each piece too much and slipped into that "zone" where my head stopped talking and my hands took over; oh and I had a lot of fun with each of these and had that feeling of sweet surprise when they were finished (the BEST feeling)... So, I am reminded to get my head out of the way and put my heart back in there and have FUN. There is an extra step of letting go that I need to remember when I switch out of doing my commercial illustration. And I think I will wait until I feel a bit better before I expect too much.
Here is the grouping of my personal favorites that I was looking at:

*nerdfest - a private party in which one is way too self focused (and not in a good way).

Love your work here and in the last couple of posts. It's hard to work when you don't feel well--don't be too hard on yourself. The muse will be waiting.

What? There was a nerdfest, and I wasn't invited?? haha
This batch of art is gorgeous; the thing that stands out about them to me right away is "movement"...they're very lively. Feel better!

i love these, Amy. and you're right. your voice is pure and clear in them. every time you've shared one of these, i've always thought, 'keep it going Amy, and share more!' you're onto something. it just takes time. as far as the letting go of the head control and letting the heart and instincts take over, i know JUST what you mean. it is blurry sometimes switching from illo to personal, so don't be so hard on yerself. just PLAY and have fun, and whichever direction it goes in the moment will have some insight to share. xo

So that's what it's called, huh? A nerdfest! Well, I certainly have a familiarity with THAT!

Great grouping, by the way.
