Spoonflower

Taking the Spoonflower plunge. I am only doing a yard each of these designs, then I plan to sew somethin' up with them. So excited, because I always wanted to see these two particular designs as fabric. I will let you know how they turn out! Here are the two designs I ordered -

Nerdfest

So I am having my own private self reflective nerdfest* today. I have been in the studio, but have been a little bit under the weather and putting a little bit of pressure on myself to accomplish something (not a good space for fostering creativity).... My head says one thing, but my hands and eyes don't seem to be speaking the same language. I am trying to pull together a collection of personal work. I cut and paste my recent favorites that I have finished in the last couple of years and I was studying them. It is so helpful looking at them all together....I can see that they all look like the same person did them, so there is a personal style developing here; they all started with a pencil sketch; the subject matter was something I was very inspired by; I let go of trying to control each piece too much and slipped into that "zone" where my head stopped talking and my hands took over; oh and I had a lot of fun with each of these and had that feeling of sweet surprise when they were finished (the BEST feeling)... So, I am reminded to get my head out of the way and put my heart back in there and have FUN. There is an extra step of letting go that I need to remember when I switch out of doing my commercial illustration. And I think I will wait until I feel a bit better before I expect too much.
Here is the grouping of my personal favorites that I was looking at:

*nerdfest - a private party in which one is way too self focused (and not in a good way).

If You Love Your Dad

In my rush to get ready to go out of town I completely forgot to post this yesterday....

You must check out this feature on Smitten (a blog for Glamour Magazine by A Cup of Jo blogger, Joanna Goddard).

I had the world's greatest dad....Thanks Jo, for including me and my dad in your beautiful post...

Here is the post of me and my dad and a caption that I wrote for the photo:

I love how we are checking each other out, as I am obviously new on the scene. I am thinking, "Hey, are you the guy who is going to be my biggest fan?, slay the dragons under my bed?, buy me those really cool boots when I am in middle school?, and teach my son everything you know about the magic of the ocean?

How Great is This?

I ventured out to a local artisan fair this past weekend and fell in love with these folksy critters.

I couldn't resist and this cute little possum found a new home. Lucky me!

Bird Sighting at Volksfaden

I was delighted to find some of my fabrics for sale at one of my FAVORITE fabric online stores, VOLKSFADEN. They have great fabrics and the funkiest website. Volksfaden translates to "people's threads".

I also saw that my On A Whim Birds flew over to Soule Mama's blog. Aren't these little skirts dreamy?

New Monoprint

I have been slowly pulling together a printing space in my studio. With Akua Inks it is really easy to work at home without a press, using a pin press. The inks are non toxic, a bit sticky, but fun if you don't mind a messy medium. Here are some photos in my studio and a new monoprint I just did today -

Another print with adjusted colors. I am really happy with the following two prints, but can't decide which one I like better, this one or the ghost print. I would love to hear which one you like better.
