We Heart Books

I am so flattered by this post from Lou at We Heart Books, a wonderful blog all about children's books and an online store where you can purchase many of the books they feature. Here are a few books they have in their shop and they recently had a nice feature in Small Magazine. Thanks Lou!

Owl Pillow Christmas

Kim over at Spoonflower got creative this holiday season with home made gifts for her girls. She used this free downloadable owl pattern that I did for Robert Kaufman upon the release of the On A Whim fabric line. Aren't they sweet?

Show and Tellapalooza

Before the Holiday crazies hit and family arrives I thought I should do most of my sharing up front. So if I don't get another chance let me wish you all a merry merry and thank you for sharing this past year with me. In about a week I will be sitting on the cool sand, listening to the ocean and all it has to say, letting the fields go fallow, and with a slow deep breath, inhaling the salty air and all its stories. I hope you have something fun planned. I can't wait!

I haven't received my fabrics quite yet... any day.... but regardless, I have decided to wait until after the holiday nuttiness for the big giveaway.... that will be a nice mid winter treat after the holiday excitement let down.... so look for somthin' exciting in January. (hint - start thinking of a favorite critter tale to share... it may lead to a package in your mailbox.)

I have been pretty busy juggling a few different types of projects so lots of different things to show you here...

1. I was looking for a pattern for my recent Spoonflower fabric and panels and this is what I have decided on....
The Claire pattern from Portabellopixie. I ordered some fabrics from Contemporary Cloth to coordinate. I will be improvising.... it should be fun... do you like the fabrics I picked to go with my Spoonflower fabrics? It is a little bit of a wild ride, but I think it will come together nicely.

2. I wanted to share a bit more of my latest obsession, my photo doodling..... I am quite happy with these and put them in my Etsy shop along with some others. They feel like little poems to me.. I am really liking how they each seem to tell a story, open to the viewer's interpretation.

3. And here are my three new jungle canvases for Oopsy Daisy -

Fabric Panels for Sale

I received my fabrics and fabric panels from Spoonflower, and yes, the colors are this yummy-licious. I am selling the 8" fabric panels in my Etsy shop for sewing projects, etc. Once again, the results from Spoonflower are very pleasing.

Forest Fun Sneak Peek

Finally, I can show you a glimpse of the new Forest Fun fabric collection with Robert Kaufman. Fabrics are on their way and will be shipped to stores in January...just around the corner. Please stay tuned for a special giveaway... free Christmasy presents for some of you Red Fish Circle blog readers including a package of Forest Fun critter pins - I will be adding a yard of fabric along with the pins to three different people... But I have to get the fabrics in my hungry little hands first, so please be patient... any day now. I will officially post about the giveaway when the fabrics arrive. There will also be some projects available on the Kaufman site, some really cool stuff, yay!

The collection is six prints in two yummy colorways. Two of the prints are a color remix of the stripes and dots from the Creatures and Critters group.

I am totally diggin' this wintery blue palette. What d'ya think?

This fabric is based on a Forest illustration I did for Oopsy Daisy -

The original illustration-

And this fabric was inspired by my other Oopsy Daisy owl canvas -

Here is the original owl illustration-

I sure hope you will like the new fabrics!

Eye Candy

About six or seven years ago I was in a department store and noticed in the children's section two pieces of artwork. One was by Annora Spence, very similar to this piece here.

The other image was by Maira Kalman, who I was already just a tad bit obsessed with at the time, well still am. This may sound a bit strange, but I do think it was at that exact moment that I decided to delve into illustration full tilt. I was SO inspired by those two particular pieces. And so my journey began.

Every now and then I will get an e-mail or comment expressing how I might have inspired someone and it absolutely BLOWS MY MIND, nothing makes me happier. If I give anyone that same feeling that I had that day, well, WOW is all I can say about that.

Here are two images that I wanted to share by an artist I recently discoverd, Keiko Minami. She was born in 1911, I find her artwork to be timeless.
