I just received my copy of Stitch by Stitch by Deborah Moebes of Whipstitch. I am so impressed with this book and highly recommend it. It is perfect for first timers, but just as appropriate for the experienced seamstress. Very thorough and perfectly titled because it is step by step sewing. I really don't think any detail is missing, it even includes an entire section all about fabric from how it is made to understanding all the fabric lingo. This will set you up with knowing what tools you need, knowing what you are looking for when purchasing your fabric, and understanding how to tackle a project from beginning to end. If you are at all intimidated by the sewing process this book will literally hold your hand. If you think you know it all, look again, there might just be a detail you didn't know. The first part of the book gets you familiar with your tools and machine and the second part introduces you to a wide variety of projects that cover almost every skill you would want to be in command of such as sewing piping on pillows and creating buttonholes. Deborah has a background in teaching and knows how to share information in an accessible way and has a deep love for sewing which is contagious. If you do decide to purchase the book or have it, leave me a comment that I can pass on to Deborah, I am sure she would appreciate it.

I'm really interested in this book, but not sure yet if I'll buy it. I at least plan to try to find it (bookstore, library) and take a look. :)
