Painting With Fabric

A Saturday afternoon project inspired by the work of Janet Bolton. I loved the idea of using this Nani Iro fabric as an abstract  landscape for a collaged bird made from silk and cotton remnants and netting.

There is a layer of pink netting appliqued on top of part of the bird.

Ebony and Ivory

Living in a community rich in wildlife, you notice a lot of animals that get "dropped off". There was the wolfote (wolf/coyote mix) that was the size of a miniature pony and totally unafraid of people, from time to time a dog who is unwanted, many lost looking cats, and most frequently domesticated ducks. These two "best friends" showed up at the lake recently. They stick together like glue and totally don't blend in or get along with the wild natural ducks to the area. They pull at my heart strings a bit. Neither here nor there, just trying to make their situation work. I might be reading too much into it. They come, all aquack,  for a stroll in my front yard every morning, picking the wayward seeds that drop from the bird feeder.

Spoonflower Flying Birds Fabric

, spoonflJust received my yardage of the Flying Birds fabric I ordered through Spoonflower. It is now available for sale in my shop.  The scale is very large - each bird about 6" wide. I can't wait to find the perfect project for it.

A Little Inspiration

Taking a little break early this morning to browse the web and found the following inspirational art via The Art Room Plant blog.

"Vintage" Snails

Woke up to this adorable dress in my flickr group this morning. I haven't seen this fabric crop up in a long while. I love the fabric stash in the background of the picture and how the swirl of the snail is capping the right sleeve. Adorable!
